Tremonti: Cauterize - 10 Phenomenal Tracks Reviewed & Ranked

10. Flying Monkeys

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOtd3rM5B8s In a recent interview Mark noted that one of his friends described the intro to this as "the soundtrack to a Godzilla movie" - which to be honest, you'll rarely find a more apt description, especially now fans know what he was referring to. Monkeys essentially does for listeners in 2015 what Metallica's Sad But True did in '91; a lumbering beat connoting the workmanlike attitude of the band itself, feeling larger than life in the process. Tremonti, drummer Garrett Whitlock, co-guitarist Eric Friedman and bassist Wolfgang Van Halen have applied this throughout the record, but it's with Monkeys where the structure of the track itself gets a big injection of originality; delving into a dark, dissonant-feeling progression right where a solo 'should' go, thereby giving the whole song a great sense of identity.
