The A-Z Of 2013's Breakout Acts

Love them or hate them, all these artists have made a name for themselves in 2013.

The music industry is in a constant state of flux. Acts come and acts go, with many disbanding or fading into obscurity for every one that goes on to build a significant fanbase and enjoy enduring popularity. Every year, a new batch of artists and groups burst onto the scene and attract the attention of the public. This year has been no different, and the entries on this list have enjoyed varying degrees of success over the last twelve months, amassing fans and exposure through their music. Whether their success will be sustained in the years to come is up for debate, but this A-Z (actually an A-P, R-W and a Y-Z, with an additional # entry, owing to the fact that acts beginning with either a Q or an X are almost nonexistent) highlights twenty five acts (and an array of honourable mentions) from an assortment of different genres, love them or hate them (I'm not a fan of several, believe me), who have made a name for themselves in 2013.

# - The 1975

When your debut album beats the comeback album of a renowned band, you're doing something right. The eponymous release by Cheshire indie/alternative band The 1975 did just that in September, beating Nine Inch Nail's 'Hesitation Marks' to go to #1, Having first been introduced to the masses at the end of last year by both BBC Introducing and Zane Lowe's radio show, The 1975 enjoyed success with a steady stream of releases throughout 2013, getting regular airplay with 'The City', Chocolate' and 'Sex', each of which peaked inside the top 40. Having also toured Europe and North America, supported Muse and the Rolling Stones and played at a handful of notable festivals, the Cheshire quartet and their understated musical style seem like a safe bet for further success in the future as they begin 2014 with a tour in two further countries, Australia and New Zealand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6tq6Fzxq1k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC4b48Y6yaM
