The gulf of opinion between critics and audiences is always interesting to consider, and while general audiences often enjoy films that are critically eviscerated, the opposite is much less common, where a largely-revered film ends up loathed by most viewers.

Now, these 12 movies have all been widely acclaimed by critics, and the general fan response in most cases hasn't been too bad either, but expect "The Dark Knight Rises Effect" to take hold soon, and once that initial buzz has died down, the more dissenting voices will pick up traction online.

That's not to say that all of this hate is earned or completely reasonable, but in most cases there is at least something here to consider, as the majority of these films have already begun to fizzle somewhat, and the hate backlash is already readying itself.

Whether or not the hate for these movies is festering within you already, the Internet is prepping to turn on these critical hits soon enough, and don't be surprised if you end up persuaded by the mob yourself...

The Acclaim: Widely lauded as a highly entertaining follow-up to James Gunn's 2014 smash hit superhero film, Guardians Vol. 2 was praised for its sharp visuals, fun performances and unexpected poignancy.

Why Everyone Will Hate It: Now that the honeymoon period's over, fans are starting to admit to themselves that the film felt nowhere near as fresh as the original: the use of pop music was more cynical and calculated, Baby Groot was arguably overused, and the climactic emotional twist felt rather forced.

Kurt Russell was fantastic as Ego, but the third act devolved into typical overstuffed Marvel CGI nonsense, and overall it felt like a going-through-the-motions follow-up rather than an innovative reworking of the original's easy formula.

In an age where any sequel that doesn't top the Rotten Tomatoes score of its predecessor is a flaming dumpster fire, it's safe to say that there's already plenty of vitriol pointed in this movie's direction.
