10 End-Of-The-World Prophecies That Didn't Come True

10. The Second Coming Was Pencilled In For 500 AD

Hippolytus of Rome, Sextus Julius Africanus and Irenaeus were not the first to make end-of-the-world predictions €“ that was all the Jewish revolt against the Romans in 66 AD, who reckoned it was the final end-time battle €“ but they were the most evangelical about it. Literally, because they thought the Second Coming of Christ was on its way. All three Christian scholars and holy men put together very similar prophecies about how they thought the apocalypse would go down. Namely, after sitting on his arse in heaven for a few centuries, the Second Advent would finally occur, Jesus would rise from the dead and come back and teach Earth a thing or two. Actually, Hippolytus of Rome went a bit further, suggesting that the first resurrection of the righteous would be accompanied by the Antichrist being destroyed, before Jesus set his sights on unleashing a fiery inferno of judgement upon the wicked. This likely didn't happen, because we're all still here. Unless everybody left is dead nice.
