10 Greatest #SochiFails Of The 2014 Winter Olympics

Nuclear water yes, but at least there was enough snow... Oh no, wait.

What is every athlete's goal, every child playing in the back yard's dream, and every mom's thought of their proudest moment? For most, the pinnacle has to be the biggest athletic stage in the world, the glorious Olympic Games. Both the summer and winter games have a rich tradition of intense competition, over-the-top facilities and a sense of national pride shared by countrymen young and old. In the spirit of these traditions, Russia promised the world the most extravagant display of ceremonies, facilities and Olympic spirit to date for the 2014 Winter Games. According to a CNN article, the original cost bid by Russia for these games placed in 2007 was $12 billion, but this number was quadrupled to $50 billion by 2014 due to extensive renovations of the city to make it worthy of hosting such an important event. Sochi 2014 has become the most expensive Olympic Games on record, surpassing the previous record set by Beijing in 2008. With all this careful planning and astronomical cash flows, the 2014 Games couldn't be anything by purely amazing, right? Well... before most of the athletes and spectators had arrived in Sochi, Twitter lit up with pictures and interesting tales of half finished hotels, dogs running wild and water that resembles the liquid that comes out of a large animal. These tales inspired hashtags like #SochiProblems and #SochiFail, which quickly jumped to the top of the trending boards as the world discovered the not-so-glamorous conditions of the much anticipated Sochi Games. If these pre-event problems weren't enough, add wardrobe malfunctions, commentator mishaps and unpredictable weather to get us where we are today; the 10 best #SochiFails of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
