10 Infamous Occultists With Terrifyingly Creepy Obsessions

10. H. R. Giger - Biomechanical Nightmares

Best known for his ground breaking visual work on the science fiction milestone Alien (where he scared everyone on set except for director, Ridley Scott), Swiss artist H. R. Giger easily created some of the most disturbingly beautiful art the world has ever seen. In his lifetime, he made the acquaintance of Surrealist painter Salvador Dali, who helped shape Giger's style of mixing Surrealism with his own hellish fantasies. He sadly passed away earlier this year on May 12, at the age of 74. Giger's art is definitely not for the squeamish. A simple glance at the horrific creatures mangled into metallic landscapes in a style he called "Biomechanical" is chilling enough. On the surface, many of the pieces resemble the mad ravings of a brilliant pervert, but in reality Giger was actually a nice guy. He revealed a major source for his inspiration when asked in an interview for Alien; he replied, in his raspy European accent, "my nightmares." There is no denying that Giger used his religion for another source of inspiration. He was a satanist.
