10 Most Shocking Unsolved Crimes
1. The Murder Of Jill Dando
Crimewatch presenter Jill Dando was one of the most recognisable faces on the BBC at the time of her death outside her flat in West London in 1999.
The cause of death was a single bullet to the back of the head, almost military-like in its precision, but the person who pulled the trigger has never been traced and the case remains open.
One year on from the killing, a local man named Barry George, who had a history of stalking women, was found guilty of the murder and sentence to life imprisonment, but his conviction was later quashed and a retrial cleared him.
Some have highlighted a possible Yugoslav or Serb connection to the case, pointing out that Serbian warlord leader Arkan is rumoured to have ordered Dando's assassination after she presented an aid appeal for Kosovar Albanian refugees.
The Yugoslav-Serb link was dismissed at the time, but now holds more weight among commentators, despite remaining unproven.
