10 Popular Universal Studios Florida Attractions That No Longer Exist

2. Kongfrontation

One of the showpiece attractions at Universal Studios Florida when the park first opened was an encounter with the king himself, Kong.

Kongfrontation invited guests into Pennsylvania Station in the park's New York area to come and meet the 8th Wonder of the World.

During the queue, riders would see news reports that Kong had escaped and was pulling the city apart. Guests would board a a replica of the Roosevelt Tram where along their journey they would come face to face with Kong, who would pick up the tram and let it plummet towards the city's river below.

Two massive Kong animatronics were built for the attraction, each measuring 39 ft in height and weighing up to 5,900 kg. Universal also gave the huge creature banana smelling breath. The animatronics were typically temperamental and often the ride would have to close for technical reasons.

Kongfrontation closed for good in 2002. The exterior of Penn Station was soon transformed into the Museum of Antiquities and become the site of The Revenge of the Mummy Rollercoaster.
