I do love a bit of nostalgia. As a kid growing up in the 1980s, I was a huge fan of numerous toylines. In particular, I liked playing with action figures, and no action figure toyline was more popular in the 80s than that of the Masters of the Universe.

These days, a lot of the characters have been redesigned and/or modernised in the new range of Masters of the Universe toys, but the classic range will never be beaten.

The best thing about the Masters of the Universe action figure toyline was the sheer variation of them. Although they mostly used the same small number of templates, no two characters were the same.

The different characters boasted a wide range of colours, a wide range of weapons, a wide range of species and a wide range of background stories – enough to keep even the least attentive children interested for a prolonged period of time.

It was always nigh on magical to have one bought for you and get the packaging opened.
