26 Marvellously British Problems That Make Life Awkward For Us All

16. Wearing Pyjamas Outside

A relatively recent phenomenon, it seems to have now somehow became acceptable to wear your nightwear while shuffling around the shops looking bedraggled. It isn't acceptable, and it's extremely bizarre to see someone walking around in their PJ bottoms. Put some trousers on people!

15. Pardon?

Perhaps the person you're speaking to is exceptionally quiet, has a bizarre accent, makes no sense or your mind is on more important things, but us Brits regularly manage to completely not hear what people say. Thus begins the universal rule; if you have to ask them to repeat themselves more than once, just nod, smile and hope for the best. For extra awkwardness, throw a laugh in there and hope there was a joke.

14. Boris Being Boris

Boris Gif Whether he's riding his bicycle while grinning inanely or accidentally falling into a lake, Boris Johnson is one of the most hilarious comedy acts in Britain. He's also the mayor of London, which is incredibly awkward to explain to anyone who asks why that chap with the mad barnet is running our greatest city.

13. The Ice Cream Man Cometh...In Winter

Icecreamman Gif Gif It's a dying trade they say, the humble ice cream van. What with these Ben and Jerry chaps taking over the supermarkets and ice cream on tap constantly, the demand for this humble British tradition is steadily on the decline. That's in Summer. Recently, perhaps in a bout of desperation, ice cream trucks have started coming around during the winter months when nobody sensible would want to buy an ice cream, let alone go outside to get it. Thus begins the awkward sad crawl of the ice cream truck travelling around your street, blaring its happy tune before slinking away slowly, ignored and forgotten. Bonus: 99's not actually costing 99p! What's that about?
