30 Greatest Mugshots Of All Time

Crime doesn't pay. But it is pretty hilarious.

Honestly, there's no good reason for getting a mugshot. It means you've done something bad and have - as a result of your actions - been brought in by the police. Crime is a bad thing - but due to the inherent nature of crime being so varied, some of the mugshots perps dragged in to jail over the years are just so inherently hilarious they deserve to be seen by all. Whether it's a massive gurn, being covered in mysterious materials or wearing questionable attire, the criminals of the world have served up many a gem over the years, all of which have been immortalised in police records and via the power of the internet. If there's any lesson to be learned from these photos, it's that being collared by the coppers is not just a bad thing because you've committed a crime; chances are you're going to look absolutely, excruciatingly ridiculous when they slam you up against a wall and take a picture of your face while you're doing something absolutely bonkers. Without further ado, let's delve into the crazy world of criminal madness as we explore the definitive 30 greatest (and probably most ridiculous) mugshots you're likely to ever see (unless you're a policeman, in which case you've probably seen crazier ones on a daily basis).

30. Nicolas Cage

Back in 2011, good old Nic was grabbed by the police after allegedly getting into a confrontation with his wife. He was taken into a New Orleans police station, spent a few hours in the brink, then posted bail. Thankfully he spent just enough time in there for them to snap a lovely photo of him. It's not quite as good as the ridiculous amount of Nic Cage memes adorning the net, but always nice to see celebs aren't totally immune to the long arm of the law.

29. Why So Serious?

Tremble in fear before Batman's greatest nemesis, the Joker himself. Taken minutes before he staged yet another breakout from Arkham Asylum, this shot is taken from the Joker's 261st visit to the loony bin. Move over Heath Ledger and Mark Hamill; this guy is a shoe-in for the best Joker portrayal of all time.

28. The Tash Of Great Surprise

There's several explanations for this one. Either the camera went off way before he expected it to, he's just woken up from a drunken stupor or he's just realised that he has the most epicly-brilliant moustache on his upper lip. We're going with the latter.
