6 Examples Of How Humanity Is Regressing Not Evolving (By Star Trek Standards)

Star Trek Black And White

I am a devout Trekkie, or if you live under a rock, a "Star Trek" fan. Now this show was unique and ingenious in so many ways but the reasons why it spoke to me as a young padawan was because it offered hope that the future (on Earth anyway) is going to be a pretty awesome place.

No crime, no poverty, no wars, no prejudice, no borders. Just one big happy planet who had lost their need for materialistic things and whom all were working together for the progress and evolution of humanity. The show's creator Gene Roddenberry had a specific vision for what he wanted his beloved creation to achieve, both visually and culturally.

"Star Trek was an attempt to say that humanity will reach maturity and wisdom on the day that it begins not just to tolerate, but take a special delight in differences in ideas and differences in life forms. [...] If we cannot learn to actually enjoy those small differences, to take a positive delight in those small differences between our own kind, here on this planet, then we do not deserve to go out into space and meet the diversity that is almost certainly out there." (Gene Roddenberry)

Well, now that is has been half a century since this iconic television show hit our airwaves I think Gene Roddenberry would be rolling in his grave if he could see the state of the world as it stands within the onset of the 21st century (the future). In fact I think in legal terms I may have a strong case against this show and its creators.

Because the human race seemingly has gone in the complete opposite direction evolutionary wise as of 2013, we are more immature as a species than ever before and a lot more stupid then what was once predicted in the visionary mind of this man and others back in the day, who fought to make the world a better place for ALL mankind.

So here now I present to you 6 examples that I believe is proof that we as a species have devolved, rather then evolved. And how this regression of evolution leaves me with almost zero faith that the future will be the enlightened Eden that Star Trek once promised us. For being the actual definition of human basically comes down to one thing I believe. Common Sense. A term long since forgotten in the eyes of of the general public.

Honorary Mention: Hyphenated Segregation

This is mainly concerned with America as they seemingly are the only western country that has this problem so it doesn't make the list. Allow me to explain. Here in Australia (and pretty much the rest of the world) we don't describe our indigenous population as "Aboriginal-Australians." We don't describe our citizens originally from Africa as "African-Australians." And we don't term our people that follow the religion of Judaism as "Jewish-Australians."

We are all Australians. That little hyphen you like to use is just another form of segregation that should have been discarded along with the "white only policies" of certain establishments back in the day. But for some reason it is still very prevalent within your entire culture. They are not "African-Americans," they are not "Jewish-Americans" or any other stereotypical or religious reference. They are AMERICANS, just like you. And should be treated the same as you expect to be.

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
