7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (April 9)

7. Mojo?

WWE WrestleMania 33 Mojo Rawley Gronk

Is there anyone on the planet who thinks Mojo Rawley would have won the Andre the Giant Battle Royal if he wasn’t friends with Rob Gronkowski? If his bestie was Carrot Top, there’s no way he’s walking out of ‘Mania with that trophy.

Even though I had zero hopes for the battle royal, it ended up being an even bigger disappointment than I imagined. The victims were many. Sami Zayn looked like a total chump for announcing himself in the match in such grand fashion, as he dedicated the fight to Mick Foley. Though I guess Sami’s performance was roughly equivalent to Foley’s run as the GM of Raw.

The Big Show was also reeling from the effects of losing his Shaq match, and despite being involved in WrestleManias since 1999, he perhaps competed in his last one in unremarkable fashion. Then there was Braun Strowman, who seemed like a gimme to win, as it would at least have been some form of a make-good for being overlooked at the show. But it all went to Mojo, who is pretty universally regarded as one of the most obnoxious wrestlers on the roster. Or really, in the history of any wrestling roster.

His promo on SmackDown was embarrassing, as he dove into weird fetish territory by exclaiming he wished he could have seen Andre dance back in the day. I mean, everybody's got their thing, but that's incredibly specific. Well, even the poor interviewer (if WWE is never going to say her name, I guess I don't have to) also revealed she was speaking for us all when she said she wasn't feeling it.

Why the company scripted her to shoot down a talent is baffling, but also strangely fitting in this situation.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
