8 Weird Food Combinations (That Actually Taste Awesome)

We bet you were thinking there'd be chocolate and chips in here right? Well...maybe we do...maybe we don't....

It's the end of the month and your fridge is a sad, solemn sight. One lonely cheese and tomato pizza sits on the shelf, crying out for you to end it all now. Tumbleweed falls from the pantry as you open it: even the cupboard is embarrassed to display a jar of old jam and some brown sauce. What could you possibly EAT? The answer is, all of it. Whack it all on that pizza. Oh, and you just remembered you have that Snickers bar in your coat pocket. Melt that little beauty on there too. You might surprise yourself and not eat anything else for as long as you live. Or you might just puke, but don't blame us. Food is the best invention in the world: it can be naughty; it can be sexy; it makes us happy and it can even be medicinal. It's impossible to calculate how many different types of food there are, because we're constantly combining and modifying flavours and combinations. We're told as children not to play with our food, but now is the time hungry readers, to break those rules. Empire Cinemas are offering you the chance to win a year's supply of cinema tickets and popcorn galore: all you have to do is conjure a new brilliantly outrageous popcorn flavour and submit it on their Facebook page. Sweet and salty mix? What about candy floss or chicken pie flavours? We've compiled a list of 10 weirdest food combinations to get you inspired - you won't believe that these actually taste pretty damn awesome together either...

8. Caviar And White Chocolate

Salty fish-eggs and...chocolate? Is this some kind of sick joke? It doesn't exactly sound like a marriage made in heaven, but it works so, so well. What's more, it's scientifically proven. 'Foodpairing' is the method of pairing two ingredient's compounds and aromas to create one-of-a-kind dishes for restaurants. Chocolate and caviar work because they both contain high levels of amines, which contribute to the delicious flavours we find in cooked meat and cheeses. Not sure whether we want to try this one just yet...

7. French Fries In Milkshake

If you saw someone doing this, chances are you'd look at them like they'd just sprouted hooves and started trotting around McDonalds car park. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it - this combination is a favourite amongst many fellow humans. The sweet and salty combination works a treat and can even be done with burger, hot dogs... pretty much any dirty-diner dish. It may feel totally wrong at first, but after that first dip of fry-in-shake, you'll be doing it every time you're out. Just beware of the side effects - that's right, hooves.
