Exploring The History (And Future) Of Alien Franchise At Disney

3. The Great Movie Ride

Strangely enough, the Xenomorph did make it to Disney World eventually, just not quite in the way anyone would have exected.

Opening in 1989, The Great Movie Ride was a central attraction at MGM Studios (now Disney's Hollywood Studios). The ride saw guests transform into the movies, as animatronics and performers brought scenes from classic films to life, all around them.

Sure enough, Eisner finally got his wish of adding Alien to Disney World. One of the scenes guests would ride through was from Ridley Scott's Alien, as a Xenomoph descends from the ceiling, attempting to attack your vehicle.

Sadly The Great Movie Ride called it a wrap for good earlier this year and was closed down permanently, mere months before Disney would officially get the rights to the Alien franchise. But at least our old pal the Xenomorph got in twenty-eight good years of making children cry.
