Harry Potter And The Cursed Child: 7 Most Compelling Theories

7. It's A Prequel About Harry's Parents

While details are sparse, the detail that keeps coming back is that the play will focus on a new perspective or an untold element of Harry's life, and despite the fact that the title makes no sense, it's hard to resist the idea that he is the cursed child in question. If you consider the Prophecy, there's an intriguing time period between Dumbledore hearing it and Harry's birth, and the specifics of Trelawney's vision do fit with the idea of Harry being a cursed child. How his parents - and Dumbledore as their friend - dealt with that would be an interesting story. Theory Rating: 4/10 If we're to believe Rowling, the play is definitely not a prequel, so delving backwards to the time shortly before their death would seem contrary to that, BUT there's every chance the author is merely being deliberately evasive in semantics. Just because the whole play might not take place before the events of The Philosopher's Stone doesn't mean it can't jump backwards in time, so there's still a good chance that that untold part of Harry's story will be explored.
