The Order of the Phoenix is the slowest of the seven Harry Potter books. Whilst some people find this change of pace a little disconcerting, others enjoy the more gradual plot progression.
However, J.K. Rowling herself has admitted certain sections of The Order of the Phoenix should have been pruned. But for those who cannot get enough of Rowling’s story, this slower pace is more than welcome.
There is also a considerable degree of world-building done in this fifth entry. For the first time we see Grimmauld Place, the Ministry of Magic, St. Mungo’s Hospital, the Room of Requirement, and several new locations in Hogsmeade.
Moreover, the book features a number of new characters. As well as the many members of the Order of the Phoenix, we’re also introduced to Luna Lovegood, who is bizarre and entertaining in equal measure.
Yet the crowning jewel of The Order of the Phoenix would have to be Dolores Umbridge. Whilst she’s not as evil as Voldemort, she’s easily the most hated character in the series, and watching her in action is always thrilling.
