So, you may have heard, the real world's version of Tony Stark, Elon Musk, has unveiled his plans to get 1 million humans to Mars with his aeronautical company SpaceX. What's more, he wants to get it rolling sooner rather than later, with plans to launch its first manned mission in 2024.

Musk's plans to reach the red planet were revealed in an hour long presentation entitled Making Humans a Multiplanetary Species, but, in short, he wants to make the human race a space faring, colonial species within his, and probably your, lifetime.

The full presentation is definitely worth a watch, particularly if you enjoy the bizarrely rambling style of a space-age Willy Wonka, but if you just want to GET HYPE about humanity's martian future in five minutes or less, then check out their promotional video below and marvel at the miracle of human endeavour.

As science fiction as this all sounds, Musk is deadly serious. He appears to have the means, the money and, most importantly, the spaceships to make it happen. So, how exactly does everybody's favourite mad scientist (well, engineer technically) plan to get humans off-world in the next few years?
