9 Brain Disorders That Completely Warp Your Reality

What happens when your own brain turns on you?

Brains are incredible, bizarre, powerful and wildly complicated, which is why when something goes wrong, the results can be spectacularly odd.

There are lots of things about our minds that we take for granted - that we can picture our loved ones, that we can remember events, and even that the world is roughly as we perceive it - but some people's brains are different, and some people don't take those things for granted.

Just a slight re-jig in your synaptic make up can alter your ability to remember or forget, it can make you believe in phantoms and it can cause you to completely invent whole swathes of reality. This fragility is a powerful demonstration of the fact that everything we think we know about reality, is just an illusion of perception created by "normal" brains.

If you were wired a little differently, you might start to see blue as red, or feel hot as cold... or become convinced that there is somebody living in your house, or even feel phantom hands touching you.

This stuff can move quickly from the strange to the creepy to the downright frightening because, if even our own brains can't be trusted, what can?
