Colby Covington won the UFC Interim Welterweight Title at UFC 225 on Saturday with a victory over Raphael Dos Anjos.
The Trump-loving wrestler earned his shot at the belt by utilising his trash talking abilities to become one of the biggest heels in the sport of MMA.
But he's not the first to do it. Many have compared Covington's style of verbal abuse to another dominant wrestler who talked his way into multiple UFC title shots.
But the pro-wrestling inspired heel schtick isn't the only style of trash-talking seen in the MMA sphere. Engaging your opponent on the verbal battlefield has been refined into an art by these fighters, employing a variety of different strategies to get the upper-hand in the psychological aspect of the fight game.

10. Nate Diaz
The first Diaz brother to feature on this list, Nate Diaz had long taken a backseat to his more popular brother before a post-fight interview would change the trajectory of his career forever.
Diaz had just defeated perennial lightweight contender Michael Johnson in dominant fashion at UFC on Fox 17 when Joe Rogan came to interview him. His win was just the second fight on the main card for that event, but the call-out he would offer would cement his thereafter status as the main event fighter he is today.
"Conor McGregor, you've taken everything I've worked for, motherf*cker! I'ma fight your f*cking ass! You know what's the real fight, the real money fight... Me! Not these clowns you've already punked at the press conference! No one wants to see that, you know you've already beat them motherf***ers! That's the easy fight. Fate would intervene at UFC 196 when an injured Raphael Dos Anjos couldn't compete in his fight with Conor McGregor. Diaz was chosen as his short-notice replacement and pulled off a famous submission victory, catapulting him into the mainstream.
In his post-fight interview, Diaz muttered another immortal line.
