10 Biggest "What If?" Questions In NBA History

1. What If... Drazen Petrovic Hadn't Passed Away?

On 7 June 1993, Drazen Petrovic was killed in an auto accident in Bavaria. His death resonated throughout the basketball world; Petrovic was, and still is, considered by many to be the greatest European player ever, and at the time of his death, he was finally finding his footing in the NBA. In fact, he had been named to the All-NBA Third Team shortly before his passing. Petrovic possessed such transcendental skill, he was so ahead of his time, that he could have changed the NBA forever had his life not been tragically cut short.

Petrovic was known for his maestro-like scoring abilities and nothing in his arsenal was quite as special as his three point stroke. In an era where the three point shot was still finding its footing, Petrovic was taking an advantage of it like no one else before him. In 1992 and 1993, he shot .444% and .449% behind the arc, respectively, which was unheard of given the volume he was shooting at. Had he continued on this path, he could have revolutionized the NBA, putting an added focus on the value of three point shooting more than two decades before Stephen Curry did.
