10 Great Footballers Who Made Terrible Managers

10. Bryan Robson

Bryan Robson The longest serving captain in Manchester United's history was seen as the ideal candidate for management due to his knowledge and command of the game. He is one of Man Utd's greatest ever players and it is impossible not to adore his play. He was even a great player for the national team, but Robson will always be most fondly remembered for his excellence in a red shirt. His most memorable managerial stint was also his first one - in charge of Middlesbrough. His spell of Middlesbrough manager was nothing but mediocrity, despite reaching two cup finals. Middlesbrough did very little with Robson at the helm and in the end, the board got fed up of the disappointment and they sacked him in 2000. Robson was subsequently an undeniable failure at Bradford, West Brom and Sheffield United and it began to feel like he was only in a job because of his storied playing career. In a shock move, he accepted the position as the manager of the Thai national team where he was only in charge for seven games before he resigned. He is now doing some ambassador work back home at Man Utd with his managerial days seemingly behind him.
