10 Greatest Footballers Of The 21st Century

10. Kaka

Kaka's career may have taken a huge decline in recent years- it's scary to think he's still just 32, given his ineffectiveness these days- but at his peak he was an absolutely wonderful player. The Brazilian joined AC Milan from Sao Paulo in 2003, having won the World Cup with Brazil a year previously, and he would became an instant hero with the then European champions. Kaka won the Serie A title in his first season in Italy, and his inspirational performances from the 'number 10' role helped the Rossoneri reach the Champions League final a year later. Although they lost in dramatic fashion to Liverpool, two years later Kaka would have his revenge. He was majestic in that 2006/07 season, and was the best player on the planet for a short while. He destroyed Manchester United in the Champions League semi-final, and was equally brilliant against Liverpool in the final. He was rewarded with the prestigious Ballon d'Or at the end of 2007. The elegant attacking midfielder moved to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, and although some expected him to be sensational, injuries and form meant his career in Spain never ignited. In his pomp though, his vision, creativity, pace and dribbling were a joy to watch.
