10 Most Dramatic Late Winners In Domestic English Football

9. Stan Collymore: Liverpool Vs Newcastle - 95/96

This 4-3 encounter has quite rightly gone down in the history books as one of the all time great Premier League matches. The score-sheet alone reads like a who’s-who of 90s premier league greats. Fowler, Ferdinand, Ginola and Asprilla, plus of course, Stan Collymore.

Earlier in the game Collymore had already drawn his side back level and as both teams pushed for a win, any semblance of defensive responsibilities went out of the window.

With 92 minutes played, Ian Rush and John Barnes undertook some neat one-twos on the edge of the Toon box before the latter found Collymore steaming in down on the left hand side. Stan took a touch to get the ball out of his feet and proceeded to hammer it home to spark wild celebrations on the Kop.

There are a couple of enduring images stemming from the moments following Stan’s goal. The man himself absolutely pelting it up the touchline in celebration is certainly one of them, but unfortunately the sight of Kevin Keegan slumped over the advertising hoardings, the image of a deflated and defeated man, is the one that really lingers.

Not only was did this goal round off one of the greatest ever Premier League encounters, it was also a crucial game in the title race thrown wide open thanks to Fergie’s unrelenting Manchester United side and Newcastle's own wavering form. Ginola himself stated that if the side had held at 3-2, Newcastle “would have won the league – definitely”.

Collymore's goal became a defining turning point from which Newcastle's season never recovered.
