10 Most Expensive Chelsea Transfer Flops

9. Khalid Boulahrouz (£9 Million)

Khalid Boulahrouz was signed by Chelsea from Hamburg SV in 2006. The Dutchman was labelled as an extremely talented young centre back and expected fight against Ricardo Carvalho and John Terry for a first team place. Boulahrouz struggled to adapt to the pace of the Premier League and only made 13 appearances for Chelsea and was eventually sent out on loan to Sevilla after only one season at Stamford Bridge. On his return he was sold to Vfb Stuttgart (where he spent four years and made 62 appearances for the club) for reportedly half the price that Chelsea signed him for.
