10 Most Expensive Transfer Flops In Everton History

1. Oumar Niasse?

A huge question mark surrounds the final player on this list, Oumar Niasse, a man who frequently featured on 'worst signing of the Premier League era' lists until recently, when he threatened to prove everyone wrong.

Nobody knows the full story behind the Senegalese striker's Goodison plight. He was signed by Roberto Martinez for a cool £13.5 million in 2016, but the Spaniard seemed reluctant to play him and Ronald Koeman was dead against that idea when he first took charge of the club the following season.

Was Niasse absolutely shocking in training? His desire to impress while on loan at Hull City last term and willingness to battle against seemingly insurmountable odds for a place in the Everton team this season suggests otherwise.

Clearly something went horribly wrong for Niasse at Everton, since he managed just five Premier League appearances in 2016 and Koeman was adamant he wasn't good enough for his team, despite probably having never seen him kick a ball. Could it simply be a case of nobody giving this man a chance?

Three goals in two recent sub appearances against Sunderland in the EFL Cup and Bournemouth in the league have threatened to revive the forgotten man's career, but living up to his £13.5 million price tag is going to be a big ask after such a rocky start.

And how much longer he will remain at Goodison after Everton sign another striker in January is anybody's guess.
