Newcastle United supporters have had to endure some pretty bleak transfer windows in recent years to say the least. Joe Kinnear's disastrous tenure as "director of football" resulted in the club failing to make a permanent signing for 18 months, as only Loic Remy and then Luuk de Jong arrived on loan during successive windows, while the Magpies also failed to strengthen their squad in January 2015. However, it is not merely the failure to adequately recruit bodies that can leave Toon supporters frustrated - it is also signing the wrong players. All Premier League clubs have been guilty at one time or another of signing some flops, but Newcastle have had more than their fair share. What's more, the Magpies have also made a habit of signing players who are not actually wanted by their manager, who don't fit into the system being employed, who don't play in the positions where new bodies are most-desperately needed, or who simply aren't good enough to make the first-team squad on a regular basis.
