10 Newcastle Heroes Whose Careers Nosedived Since Leaving

Sometimes, the grass isn't always greener...

Players leave football clubs - that is just a fact of life. For some, they can't have gotten away from St. James' Park faster - having fallen afoul of managers, being forced to play out of position and generally enduring a miserable time at Newcastle United. Once away from the cauldron of chaos up north, they were allowed to thrive and force their way into the reckoning for international call-ups and Champions League football. There are quite a number of footballers who have walked through the exit door and thus watched their career crumble before their very eyes. Whether they walked or were shoved, they will no doubt admit that they failed to replicate their Toon form anywhere else, and were consequently never adorned with the same level of affection from any of their new-found supporters. Some Newcastle United heroes left the club in search of furthering their careers and subsequently turned into the laughing stocks of the country, resigned to spending more time on the bench than on the pitch whilst punters and supporters alike clutched their sides with laughter regarding their sizeable transfer fees. Others were let go by the club as 30-something-year-olds after over a decade of service and were understandably unable to command the same level of suitor as ten years previously. Take a look at the ten Newcastle United heroes whose careers took a downward slump as soon as they left the club.
