10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Man Utd

The ones who promised so much, but failed to deliver...

Manchester United's Premier League defeat to Swansea served as a reminder of the lack of quality amongst the playing staff at Old Trafford. United whimpered to a 2-1 defeat at home on the opening day of the 2014/15 season, fielding a side littered with players either incapable or untested at the top level. It's not the United we've become accustomed to over the last two decades. Sir Alex Ferguson harvested the rewards of an excellent youth set up in the 1990's, but now their time has passed. The 13-time Premier League champions have lost their way, and its a rot that will not be stopped until new players are brought in - and the dead wood is shipped out. United's shortcomings are startlingly obvious for supporters, but the repeated insistence from former and new coaches David Moyes and Louis van Gaal to give the current crop another chance to prove themselves irks loyal United fans. For them, seeing the same players who promised so much in younger years fail to deliver week after week means their times in red are over with. A clear out is needed, and fast. Van Gaal needs to make new signings too. But this time, he needs proven quality rather than promise to be brought in to turn the club around. His philosophy to develop young talent needs to shift to getting the first team squad back amongst the Premier League front runners. With a clear out hoped and expected, it's worth reminding ourselves that there are not only current players that have failed to fulfil their potential at United, but past players that have fallen away too. Here are United's top ten from the Premier League era.
