10 Players Newcastle Gave Up On Too Soon

NUFC have too often dispensed of talented players far too soon.

As the days tick down towards the close of the 2015 summer transfer window it looks likely that Newcastle United will have discarded another talented player without really giving them an extended opportunity to impress on Tyneside by the time it shuts. Remy Cabella signed from Montpellier for a fee somewhere in the region of £12 million last summer to much fanfare having just scored 14 goals in 37 Ligue 1 games for the French side the previous season, yet he looks set to depart St James' Park in the coming days after netting just once in 34 appearances in black and white. Florian Thauvin, a player Newcastle's chief scout Graham Carr has courted for years, looks set to take Cabella's place in the Magpies squad, with Steve McClaren seemingly having decided that he would prefer a more direct winger to supply fellow summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic, rather than a playmaker. Cabella has shown flashes of brilliance during his time at Newcastle - including a magnificent goal at Hull City and promising displays against Chelsea and Arsenal - but all-too fleetingly. The four-cap France international has also been accused of being too lightweight, and of failing to make an impact. Yet it seems harsh to have written Cabella off after only one campaign - although he is not the first player Newcastle have done that to, and doubtless he will not be the last (admittedly, however, all of these come with the benefit of hindsight). Here, WhatCulture.com/NUFC look at 10 players Newcastle United gave up on too soon.
