10 Players Nobody Expected Spurs To Sign

With Levy at the helm, it will always be a soap opera in Tottenham.

Daniel Levy is as loose with his forefinger when it comes to pulling the trigger on managers, as he is when it comes to sanctioning overhauls of the squad at his new employee's behest. While Spurs have built have a reputation in recent years as a selling club, that tagline might be slightly wide of the mark. What other club could realistically hold onto the likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale without the lure of Champions League football? And even one or two of the top-quality players that were prized from their grip ended up returning within a year anyway, tail firmly between their legs. One thing is for sure, however, and that is that while Levy is overseeing things at White Hart Lane, Spurs will always serve as busy bees in the transfer windows. From striving to replace £85 million Bernabeu-bound talismans with a host of various different players, to rummaging in the bargain basement for the best freebies available to man, the club have always pulled a few shocks in the market. They have had a penchant for the audacious, in much the same way as they have had for the ludicrous, much to the bemusement of the White Hart Lane faithful. It has made the transfer windows so unpredictable and exciting, as they simply don't know whether they are about to sign another Champions League-winning, glasses-wearing, Dutchman from Inter Milan, or if they are ready to lure another 34 year old freebie from Blackburn Rovers. Take a look at the ten players that nobody expected Spurs to sign, for various reasons.
