10 Premier League Record Signings Who Were A Waste Of Money

It's called silly season for a reason.

Transfer season is upon us and it€™s that time of year when clubs ready their bids for some of the world top players, or scrabble around for scraps who cost about ten times as much as they could reasonably command on a not-insane market. Inevitably thanks to the Premier League becoming a major attraction over the past ten years, more money than ever has been spent in an effort to bring the top players to England, but they haven€™t all been a success. Despite pedigree, skill and undoubted track records, there's no guarantee that spending a lot means definite impact in the Premier League. But still, more and more clubs are breaking their club records every transfer window to secure the services of men they believe will improve them. And inevitably, they end up poorer and significantly worse off, if this list of flops and failures who cost a bucketload is anything to go by. Whatever the reason may be - the language barrier, homesickness, the style of play - these ten men have all commanded huge sums of money and failed to live up to the considerable hype. Most have left, and while some have subsequently found success elsewhere, they will always be remembered as a monumental waste of money.
