The NFL is a money-making juggernaut, raking in billions of dollars from TV coverage, advertising, tickets and merchandise. A career in the NFL offers instant 'rock star status', and almost incomprehensible riches generated by hard-working fans who invest heavily to enjoy the game in-person or even just to watch on TV at home. Even the controversial NFL commissioner Roger Goodall earns a staggering $44 million each year, almost a quadruple rise from his $11.6 million salary in the year ending March 2011. According to Forbes, each franchise is worth an average of $1.43 billion each, with each of the 32 teams amassing around $53 million profit in 2013, and that is paving the way for some monster contracts to be handed out to the league's finest players. Packers' veteran QB Aaron Rodgers leads the way in terms of each player's yearly average wage for 2015 with $22 million, while DT Ndamukong Suh's contract has leapt up to an average of just over $19 million following his record deal for a defensive player with the Miami Dolphins. But still, the players' current total career earnings are eclipsed by the highest-earners to ever play in the league, so here is a countdown of the 10 richest NFL players of all time, based on what they earned playing the game, not including money garnered from embarrassing advertisements, endorsements and business dealings...
