10 Sunderland Players Who Really Weren't Worth The Hassle

It's not just Newcastle who collect all the bad boys, you know.

With St. James' Park long having been the hotbed for the louts and bad boys of the Premier League, Newcastle United has resembled more of a juvenile detention centre rather than a football club in recent years. Sunderland supporters have smirked as they have watched Toon players tear lumps out of each other on the pitch, have public dressing-downs with their managers and even end up behind bars, in some cases. However, as they will also admit themselves, there have been a number of bad boys, prima-donnas and simply players who just weren't the trouble, who have crossed the threshold of the Stadium of Light during the last decade. There have been players who have treated the club as nothing but a cash cow, milking the naïve newly-promoted side for all it's worth. There have been examples of overpaid mercenaries traipsing across the Stadium of Light turf with nothing but contempt for the support, despite the graft that the club put in to acquire their services. There have also been cases where it just simply didn't work out, despite the club splurging vast amounts of cash, in one case spending a British record fee. Whether it was sheer naivety, or simply a willingness to do well, Sunderland have strived to improve their fortunes each year, and have been left with burnt fingertips on more than one occasion. Take a look at the ten players that Sunderland should not have wasted their time on, because quite frankly, they were simply not worth the hassle.
