10 Things You Didn't Know About Matthew Dellavedova

Unearthing some interesting facts about the NBA's hottest emerging star.

When Kyrie Irving injured his knee towards the end of Game 1, many predicted that this year's NBA Finals series was as good as over. Without their prodigious starting point guard, the Cleveland Cavaliers were surely buried - even with the greatest player in a generation still on their active roster. There's only so much LeBron James can do alone, and Irving was the crucial Robin to his Batman. Step forward Matthew Dellavedova. The unlikeliest of heroes, the 6'4" Australian has shot to prominence after an underwhelming couple of seasons in the NBA. Originally viewed as nothing more than a bench filler, on the roster merely to give Irving a much-needed rest in between lengthly on-court stints, Dellavedova has emerged as one of the key figures in deciding the entire 2015 season. It seems bizarre that in a clash of superstars as freakishly talented as Steph Curry and LeBron James, an equally important player is about as close to an "everyman" stereotype as a professional athlete can get. Dellavedova won't drive to the rim and throw down a thunderous dunk; he won't break anybody's ankles with a lightning quick crossover or snatch rebound after rebound out of they sky. He will, however, play tenacious defence, throw up a reliable three pointer every now and then, and never, ever stop hustling. Whether the Cavaliers win or lose this series, the league has found a new hero in the unlikely form of Matthew Dellavedova. To celebrate this, here are ten facts you need to know about the hottest new star of the NBA.
