10 Underwhelming Spurs Signings Who Became Cult Heroes

Sometimes all it takes is a winning goal against West Ham.

Spurs have a habit of letting their supporters down when it comes to transfer dealings. With Daniel Levy dipping his nose into the market on multiple occasions each summer, there have inevitably been a host of big-money signings that simply haven't worked out, as well as some signatures that have failed to capture the imagination of the White Hart Lane faithful. There almost seems to be an air of Levy splashing a bucket of paint at a canvas and hoping some of it sticks, when it comes to his transfer dealings over the last few years. Badly burnt with big-money flops such as Darren Bent and Heurelho Gomes, the Spurs chief has often tried to steer clear and think outside the box, often opting for the less extravagant and less fashionable name. As a result, these incoming 'nobodies' have been met by a wave of disapproval from the Spurs faithful. However, Levy must be given significant credit for a number of these cards placed carefully up his sleeve, as they have managed to cement themselves as cult heroes at the Lane, earning rave reviews and plaudits for their all-action displays despite their lack of a so-called 'star quality'. It doesn't take much to get the Spurs faithful onside - indeed, there is one player in this list who managed to banish two and a half years of mundane football and sitting on the bench by scoring a winning goal against West Ham. Of course, it would be wise not to anger the Spurs faithful - as Sol Campbell would testify, they can certainly be a vindictive bunch and know the meaning of the word 'grudge'. So, take a look at these ten players who managed to change the initial opinion that they were an 'underwhelming signing', on the way to cementing themselves as cult heroes at White Hart Lane.
