10 Utterly Embarrassing Newcastle United Stories

No wonder we need a PR expert...

There's a good reason that Newcastle United is often called the soap opera club: it's very rare that a couple of weeks goes past at St. James' Park without someone renaming something against the fans' wishes, or someone punches someone else, or someone else generally gets away with being the worst manager of the last 12 months without punishment. For a while under Kevin Keegan the drama didn't really matter: while the club were earning their reputation as the Entertainers on the pitch it didn't really matter what was happening off the pitch - but when the tides turned and things got a little more bleak, it became all too easy for the tabloids and other fans to stick the knife in on the club, with players claiming it was a god-fish bowl and others just generally behaving like zoo animals. All-in-all, the club has suffered over time for the actions of an idiotic minority, and no matter how much stability seems to be the end-game, or how disciplined modern professionals and students of the game claim to be, every once in a while it's painfully obvious that something silly can and will happen. It seems like the unwritten rule of St. James' Park that as long as there is a football club and a focal point for the fans and community there will be an equal and opposite force of idiocy pushing back against it, and it is the fans for the most part who are left feeling utterly embarrassed...
