10 Worst World Cup Teams Ever

9. El Salvador (1970)

The tiny Central American nation of El Salvador has made it to two World Cups but neither one of them ended well. In 1970, El Salvador found themselves in a group with Belgium, Mexico, and the Soviet Union. They lost their opening game against Belgium 3-0 and then came up against the hosts, Mexico.

The final scoreline was 4-0 to the Mexicans, but the game was marred by a controversial moment when, with the score level at 0-0, El Salvador was awarded a free kick, but Mexico took it instead and scored just moments later. In protest, the El Salvador players kicked the ball into the crowd and never managed to get their heads back in the game.

Their final match was another pretty miserable affair for El Salvador fans, with the team being beaten 2-0 and suffering the indignation of leaving the tournament without scoring a single goal or earning a single point.
