14 Biggest Premier League Transfer Mistakes Of Summer So Far

Premier League clubs have sanctioned some highly dubious deals this summer...

The summer transfer window is in full swing as we enter the final month before September 1st's deadline with Premier League clubs being more active than ever before. In the first two months of the window alone an astonishing £360 million was splashed out by England's top tier teams - up £60 million from the year before, according to Deloitte's Sports Business Group. That means that we could see spending surpass the record of £630 million set last year by the time we reach the transfer cut-off point at the end of the month as clubs put their money where their mouths are in a bid to secure title glory or simply survive dreaded relegation come next May. Chelsea and Liverpool have been the window's biggest spenders so far with the Blues splashing out a combined £62 million on Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, while the Reds this week unveiled their seventh signing of the summer in the form of defender Javier Manquillo. Manchester United aren't too far behind having splurged on Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, of Southampton and Athletic Bilbao, respectively. But just how successful have English clubs been in the market? Already we've seen a few dubious deals - be it due to a perceived inflation in transfer fee or a move that leaves a club notably light in a key area. Here, we take a look at the 14 Biggest Premier League Transfer Mistakes of the Summer So Far. Click 'next' to get started.
