8. Michael Jordan Was Fined Upon First Wearing His Signature Sneakers
One of the biggest money-spinners for NBA players these days is via shoe endorsement deals. It will therefore come as a surprise to find out that Michael Jordan, upon showing off the first of his iconic series of high-tops in 1985, was fined $5,000 by commissioner David Stern for every game he played them in. Stern took personal issue with the shoes, believing they did not match with the Chicago Bulls uniform, but Jordan continued to wear them as Nike paid the fines for him! It certainly proved worth their while.
