Newcastle United's season has been bizarre. It started horrendously, with the club failing to win until October 18th - when they then managed to claim six victories in succession. By the turn of the year, the Magpies were comfortably in the Premier League's top 10 and it merely looked like they would finish somewhere between seventh and 13th in the table. Yet now, with just one game remaining, Newcastle are in a perilous position - and they could still be relegated. One of Hull City or Newcastle United will join Queens Park Rangers and Burnley in the Championship come Sunday evening. This seems all the more incredible when you consider the fact that the Magpies were in 10th place, on 26 points after 19 games, when Alan Pardew left to join Crystal Palace at the turn of the year. Fast-forward another 18 matches, and John Carver's Newcastle have managed to collect just 10 more points and they are now in 17th place in the Premier League table. How have Newcastle United managed to plunge down the Premier League table and towards relegation at such an alarming rate when they looked all-but safe in the middle of January?
