20 Greatest Kits In Newcastle United History

A loving ode to the Black and White (and blue, and yellow, and green, and silver) Army.

There are a lot of words Newcastle United fans would use to describe the things they witness at St James' Park, but it's a safe bet that "beautiful" isn't amongst them. From Dalglish's tactics, to Boumsong's defending, via Gabriel Obertan's face, the Geordie faithful have had to endure some absolutely horrific sights during their time supporting their club. Yet in spite of all this, Newcastle can rightly claim to be the owners of some of football's most iconic and gorgeous strips. The black and white stripes are almost impossible to get wrong (Umbro managed it once with a combination of thick and thin. Awful) and that's given brands like Asics, Adidas and Puma license to create some truly stunning sportswear. Away from home the club have worn some of the most famous second and third strips seen in English football. Granted, occasionally that fame came from how daft they looked, but that didn't stop them finding a place in the hearts of the club's fans. Whether it was the granddad collar that nearly won the league, the Solero number that dominated the Championship, or the shimmering silver of the 80s that neatly accentuated the growing beer belly of a certain Mr Gascoigne, every Newcastle fan has their favourite strip from the scores that have lined the club shop's walls. Here are the 20 that top the lot.
