Pride The UFC for years has been the undisputed king in the world of mixed martial arts. Emerging from the dark ages in which the sport was banned in many places, the UFC has seen its social acceptance reach an increasing level since being purchased by parent company Zuffa in the early 2000's. Although the UFC is by far the most successful, visible promotion in the world, they haven't been without competition, and stiff competition at that. From all corners of the world, promotions made their attempt to compete and unseat the UFC as the number one MMA promotion, but as of yet, none have succeeded. Often times, these promotions would make valiant efforts, spending top dollar to lure away UFC mainstays, as well as signing the sport's top free agents. Ultimately each challenger has fallen, as the UFC purchases floundering, but once successful promotions as a means to add fighters and footage to their video library. Let's take a look at a few promotions in which gave it their all, but were eventually swallowed whole by the UFC machine.
