Arsenal have entered the New Year flying high and topping the Premier League table after a run of impressive results. After coming from behind to win 3-1 at West Ham on Boxing Day, the Gunners battled to a 1-0 victory at Newcastle before battling to overcome a resilient Cardiff side on the Emirates on New Year's day. Although the North London side were far from their best on each of these occasions, the results show they have improved since recent years. However, pundits and rival fans are still questioning whether Arsenal can genuinely mount a realistic threat for the crown of English football. They point to failures in recent years and the fact that Arsenal tend to struggle against bigger opposition. Ultimately, this is unfair. Manchester United are still considered as contenders despite the fact they are 11 points of the top.
