Even the most optimistic of fans could never have imagined a 6-0 thrashing of Arsenal. But to the pleasant surprise of Chelsea fans, and an extremely unpleasant shock for the Arsenal faithful, the Blues annihilated their London rivals in a merciless display of sleek passing, accurate shooting and air-tight defending. Eto'o opened the scoreline with a delightful finesse shot which was lobbed just beyond the reach of Arsenal's custodian Wojciech Szczsny into the far corner. André Schürrle doubled the lead just two minutes later, before the Gunners conceded again via a Eden Hazard penalty. Prior to that, referee Andre Marriner awarded the wrong player a red card, sending off Kieran Gibbs instead of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who made an outstanding diving save to block a shot that looked to be curling just beyond the post. Oscar extended Chelsea's lead to four in the 42nd minute, before scoring yet again in the 66th minute with a hopeful shot from 20 yards out, which Szczsny should have done better. Mohamed Salah came on before the restart, and scored four minutes later after beating the offside trap to register his first ever goal for Chelsea. The victory was the biggest for Chelsea under Jose Mourinho's management. It was painful watching the game, and even more painful recalling the events of the game while writing this article.
