5 Reasons Why Jose Mourinho Will Be Chelsea's Downfall This Season

Jose Mourinho's second coming at Chelsea in the summer was heralded as the dawn of another new era for the Blues after a run of eight managers in his six year absence from the club. Upon his arrival, the enigmatic Portuguese coach stated that he would leave the club if they fail to win trophies over the next couple of years, and at the moment it looks as though he may have to follow through on his words of wisdom. Despite his claims that his DNA hasn't changed in the six years he was away from the club, the opposite seems true, he looks tired in every interview he does and he offers no real explanations for his team's deficiencies. The blank cheques that he filled in during his first stint at Chelsea gave him practically any player he desired, but Roman Abramovich has held back in recent seasons on bringing in new recruits to the squad as he looks to take the club to a new level both tactically and philosophically. The fact that the billionaire owner addressed both these issues by re-appointing Mourinho shows that his policy is flawed somewhat. Mourinho historically is not a man you employ with a view to a long-term project, he has never stayed at a club for more than three years, and his tactics are not suited to a club looking to play free-flowing attacking football. The problems then were there even before Mourinho took on the job at his former club, and with 16 games of the season gone, nothing looks to have changed from these initial doubts. The Blues have not convinced so far this season, and bearing in mind that he was supposed to be the answer to Chelsea's problems, here are the reasons why he will be their downfall this season.
