Real Madrid are currently flying high at the top of La Liga and have transferred their domestic success to the European stage, as they easily progressed through their group and dismantled Schalke 6-1 in the first leg of the round of 16 last night. The Spanish giants are widely tipped as the favourites to win the competition this year, which would result in a record tenth trophy. However, they haven't reached the showcase final since 2002 but they have reached the semi-final stage for the last three years. Now the time has come for Real to progress even further and there is no reason why they can't. They're yet to hit top gear this season and have still managed to pick up spectacular results, with a squad of players that is simply frightening. Real Madrid's name is always mentioned as contenders for the prestigious trophy but there has been a problem overcoming the final hurdle in recent years. This year things are looking like they could well be different and it doesn't look like anyone can stop the progression of the famous club.
