5 Under-Appreciated Champions League Winners (And One Finalist)

The Champions League is back and as the best teams in Europe go head-to-head why not reminisce and remember the reasons it is the premier club competition in the world. The competition has been punctuated by wonderful memories, legendary players and classic teams. There are several famous Champions League victors who most fans know: the Real Madrid team who won the competition five consecutive times when it debuted, the Bayern and Ajax sides who each won it three successive times in the €˜70s, the Liverpool team who won it four times in eight years, the Milan team who were involved in five European Cup finals in seven years (winning three) and the current Barcelona team. Those six teams are remembered for dominating the competition for periods of its illustrious history. Other famous teams include Celtic€™s Lisbon Lions and Manchester United€™s 1999 squad and although both only won the competition once they are still ranked among the best club sides. There are many other wonderful teams who have lifted the trophy but haven€™t been as fondly remembered. Here are five victors and one runner-up who are under-appreciated.
