Hugo Lloris is a world class goalkeeper and has done everything he can to help France advance to the World Cup final. As much as he has made key saves for Tottenham in recent seasons using his cat like reflexes, he also poses a conundrum, as his concentration is prone to slip, leading to game changing errors. Unfortunately Michel Vorm does not seem a suitable back up anymore and Paulo Gazzaniga appears to have disappeared off the face of the earth. It may be the time to invest in a credible back up that will push Hugo to rediscover the form that linked him with moves to Real Madrid and PSG.

Butland is clearly over qualified for the Championship and in need of a top flight team. Surprisingly to some, he was not named as England’s number one by Gareth Southgate prior to the World Cup. Spurs need to take advantage of this unexpected position when pricing up a deal as he is currently undervalued and should be available at a snippet of his true market value.

It is hard to see how Stoke can hold onto such a talent, and it will be a case of when, not if he moves back to the Premier League. The difficulty will be convincing a first team regular that the best place to be is on the bench behind Captain Hugo. Butland would give Spurs a new plan in more defensive games in the form of a traditional, level headed goalkeeper, rather than one that appears to want to play in midfield for most of the game.
