The Premier League season is in full swing now and we are already getting a good idea of who the top performers and biggest strugglers are going to be, with the likes of Man Utd and Man City already showing an element of dominance.

Another thing we're starting to get an idea of are those players who look like they are going to be doing the business in front of goal for their respective teams.

Some of those who would expect themselves to be in the running for the end of season award have already made excellent starts to the season, and will be hoping to continue their good form in the hope of knocking Harry Kane off his goal scoring perch come next May.

Over the course of time in the Premier League we have seen some of the best names in modern football take the Golden Boot prize, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, and Didier Drogba all having their name engraved on the trophy.

The chance to join those elite names is something which a whole host of players will be hoping to do this season…

7. Chris Wood

While Wood could be the long shot on this list given the team he plays for, he has nevertheless made an excellent start to life back in the Premier League.

The big New Zealander smashed in 27 league goals in the Championship last season, and had already hit the net once before Burnley snatched him in the final week of the transfer window.

His form has transcended into the Premier League and shows no signs of slowing, with Wood scoring in each of his starts so far for his new club.

While the Clarets will likely be involved down the lower end of the table this term, there is still every chance Wood can score enough goals to put him in the frame for the Golden Boot come the end of the season.

We have seen players in the past take the trophy despite not playing for top six clubs, with Kevin Phillips the standout example of this from his Sunderland days. While this does not mean Wood is a dead cert to hit 30 goals, he can take encouragement from what has been done before him and become a surprise winner this season.
